Ignitius Bwoogi

Founder and CEO

Ignitius has extensive experience in organic vanilla growing from his own home plot and working with hundreds of farmers in Nkokonjeru through Rural Agency for Sustainable Development (RASD). He was the Executive Director for 20+ years of the NGO that he began after graduating from Makerere University.

He moved to the US in 2023 and began Bwoogi Vanilla in order to create a market in the US for some of the world's finest organic vanilla sourced from his home town and surrounding villages in Buikwe District (about 30 miles south-east of Kampala near Lake Victoria).

Wovoka Inc and The Rural Agency for Sustainable Development (RASD)

The Rural Agency for Sustainable Development (RASD) partnered with Wovoka Inc, a nature-based solutions developer, to deliver on the promise of increasing revenue generating opportunities for farmers and land managers in the global south.

Vanilla cultivation stands as a prime example of sustainable agroforestry. When integrated into diverse farming systems, vanilla vines coexist with larger trees, promoting a layered canopy. This not only provides an ideal shaded environment for the vanilla, but also encourages a continuous cycle of carbon sequestration.

Trees in the system absorb and store atmospheric carbon in their biomass, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the land. This symbiotic relationship between vanilla and its surrounding flora underscores a harmonious blend of agriculture and ecology, fostering biodiversity while actively combating climate change by keeping carbon anchored in the ground.
